Day 2 in China; Part II: We Tour out into the City

So it's been nice at the local shop, but now on to the garmet district. We get a bit side tracked and go left instead of right. I like getting off track. Okay it's Saturday, and Saturday is laundry day. I found it interesting that any line is multi purpose. Be it electricity or clothes line, or whatever...

Now when you get a high rise, a little laundry goes a long way....long way up that is! We are well into the place people live. You can see air conditioners. Right behind me (not picutred) is the local toilet. Doors are not provided, so as you walk by, anyone going is going and being out on the street you know what is going on inside too... sinks are along the street and people share. They really know how to make things spread out.

So on our way to the clothes mart, there are street vendors. Here's a nice piece of jewelery. How much? Can you make this happen? Sure if you have the money...they have the product...

So let's go inside. It is so hard to describe. Image a store the size of a Price Chopper with 95 vendors on each floor and three floors. That makes a whole bunch of people. And they are all selling the same thing...suits...shirts...dresses....all tailor made...all top of the line silk, wool, cashmere....you name it.

You find a shop...you find a style you like....you negotiate price and in two days...you have what you want. A suit goes for around 450 RMB (about 75 USD). Not bad for a hand made silk suit, now is it?

Even Mickey likes China...

Traveling is an interesting feature in this economy. Bike and scooter are the prefered method. The bikes look bad. Not sure if it's the weather or the just old bikes.

And then of course there are the street cart vendors. These are part of the local cuisine. I have not braved this. Notice the street sweeper? That is not a regular broom. It's a bunch of branches banded together and that is stadard issue. They are pretty good with those things.
Then we have the beautiful foutains. I just love foutains. I think they are so elegant. This one has just a sheet of glass sticking out of the rock and the water flows out of the rock, across the top of the glass and then cascades down onto the top of the rock below...
